Sprotbrough Community Library is looking for new volunteers to help out at the library with different roles and tasks as follows:-
Library Services Counter Volunteers – to undertake general library services including:
- issuing and discharging books
- assisting with services such as advising customers how to use the photocopier, printer and flat bed scanner
- returning books to shelves and keeping shelves tidy
- keeping the library displays tidy and up to date
- basic administration duties such as taking customer details for courses and activities, book requests, taking messages and returning customer calls
- dealing with counter and telephone enquiries
Basic computer knowledge is required to learn and use two of the DMBC library computer systems that we use. Full training and ongoing support is provided.
All counter staff work in a team of a minimum 2 persons (and sometimes with 3 or 4 in a team on some shifts) usually with at least one person being a Lead Volunteer – this is an experienced volunteer with extended knowledge of the library and its systems who is there to help out should you get stuck with anything – and we need more of these too!
We work a 3-shift system at present: 10am-1pm, 1pm-4pm and 4pm-6pm Monday to Saturday though we close at 1pm on Thursday & Saturday. Volunteers are welcome to do one or more shifts across the week.
We would also welcome creative & imaginative people who can create themed displays for books, activities and relevant social and community topics. This can be done any day and time during our opening hours to suit you, just once or twice a month.
Volunteers need to be aged over 18, literate to a good standard and have good people and customer service skills. We also welcome students aged 18+ who may require work experience, where you can drop in to help anytime our library is open.
We provide full training and support for all volunteer positions.
An excellent opportunity for building up work experience and to gain a reference, or to simply give something back to the community or pass a few hours if you are retired or bored! Whatever your reason, please get in touch – your library needs you!
Call in anytime we are open or email email@example.com – please leave your name and number so we can call you back for an initial chat.
