Sprotbrough Community Library has a good range of services and facilities to offer its members and guest visitors.
Libraries were always about books and our Library still has a large selection of fiction and non fiction books in paperback and hardcover on the shelves as well as large print books and a reference section. There is a children’s section with low seating. The adult and children’s sections have their own DVD and CD collections
Our library has to keep up with the modern digital age so there is free wifi throughout the building giving access to the Internet and free e-books, e-music and e-audio books via the DMBC library service web page. You can access all this on your own laptop, tablet or smart phone, and with all e-material there are no fines as it is automatically deleted after 21 days.
We also have a selection of Reading Well on prescription – a series of books helping you manage your health and well-being in self-help form.
Sprotbrough is not limited to its shelf space – through our online catalogue we can order books on inter library loan or even purchase new books.
The modern library is not just about books, newspapers and local magazines – we also have free public computers running windows 7 and Microsoft Office so you can email, create documents, scan and print.
All computers and the scanner are connected to a printer/photocopier which can print/copy on A4 and A3 paper in colour or black and white for a reasonable cost (fees are stipulated by DMBC). You can provide your own paper however please note this does not reduce the fees charged. Documents can also be sent via our fax machine and we also sell postage stamps.
There is a large meeting room for hire which has blinds on all windows and can be set up with or without tables & chairs. A small meeting room (with coffee table & chairs) is also available for hire as well as our mezzanine area.
Our upstairs mezzanine area is undergoing modification and we will soon have a second large meeting room and the remaining open area will accomodate a bank of 8-10 individual computers for public use and for courses requiring them.
Downstairs, the library has a seating area with comfy chairs, a sofa, newspapers and an information area together with a good quality hot drinks machine (small charge per cup) and a free chilled drinking water machine.
The building is fully carpeted throughout and centrally heated and the library will be closing for 2 weeks later in the year (date yet to be confirmed) so it can have the ceiling and lighting replaced by DMBC.
The building is on a local bus route with a bus stop conveniently right outside the car park. We have disabled parking spaces, ramp access to the front main door which has automatic opening, a lift and a public toilet upstairs that is suitable for disabled people. We also have a low height counter area suitable for children and wheelchair users. Our volunteers are also there to assist library members and guest visitors alike, so if you need help with anything, please ask a volunteer on duty.
What with everything we have to offer there s a lot going off down at your local library so come and see for yourself…..we’re open six days a week!
